Frequently asked questions
When do I use Ottotape Trio BKA MF1 instead of the narrower Ottotape Trio FBA?
Ottotape Trio FBA (30/35 mm) covers joint widths of 6–15 mm. The wider BKA MF1 (64–84 mm) is also suitable for 10–20 mm, for example with larger elements. If the joint is wider than a tape's specification, the tape is not compressed enough and does not seal reliably.
How are the tape ends and corners done with BKA MF1?
Butt the tape ends neatly together (butt, do not overlap) and do not stretch the tape at corners. Overlaps create bulges that reduce the joint filling at that point and encourage leaks.
How does the window frame need to be prepared so that the tape holds?
The frame must be dry and free of release agents, otherwise the impregnated foam sealing tape will not adhere reliably. The reveal must be sound, clean and free of dust and grease.
Do I also need installation foam with BKA MF1?
Yes, for fixing: the PU installation foam fixes the frame at individual points in the opening. However, it does not replace the functional layers of the impregnated foam sealing tape (airtight on the inside, insulating in the centre, driving-rain-tight on the outside).
